Artist profile: Shu – Robot Lady’s tale

Every month, I profile an artist that inspires my own art, in several segments.

Shu plays with several themes in his work, like nature and traditionally-dressed Japanese ladies. However, the following images feature one character and express a visual narrative.

To me, this is a story about rebirth. The Robot Lady is abandoned, wakes up, grows spiritual wings, and enters some sort of super-awesome, light-filled realm. What do you think Shu is telling us?

Endnote 1: I have no idea what the title for the artwork I labeled “discarded Robot Lady” is. The kanji is 傷跡, which is associated with words like “cut”, “hurt”, “injured”, “impression”, and “mark”. Any help translating this into something that sounds like a title would be appreciated.

Endnote 2: “Emerge” is my favorite of the series!
