Artist profile: Helena Nelson-Reed – Celestial

Every month, I profile an artist who inspires my own art,
in several segments.

There are several of Helena Nelson-Reed’s paintings that deal with goddesses and angels. Here are three that I thought were just beautiful.
You would expect a painting of the Japanese sun goddess to have lots of warm oranges, yellows, white, and maybe red. The lack of these colors (except in short bursts) makes me think Nelson-Reed is portraying Amaterasu inside the cave where she hid from her jerkface brother… or maybe not.

She’s pretty! I’m not even sure if she has wings – I see some feathers, though.

Now here are some wings! This painting is too cool. So sweeping and vibrant and big-feeling.
