Living Fashion: 1810s Lyon dress

Living Fashion is a series in which I draw historical clothing on active people, inspired by Draw This Dress by artists Emily Carroll and Vera Brosgol.
I decided to take more time and more care with my digital art. I spent twice as much time on this piece as last month’s and I also switched from drawing in the GIMP to Corel Essentials 4. I think it looks a lot better!

The original dress is owned by the Musée Historique de Tissu de Lyon, in France. It’s from the Regency/Directoire period, which is obvious from its high empire waist. Regency isn’t my favorite era of fashion, but the color and paisley of this dress made me put it on my to-draw list. I made it fully red just to be dramatic.
