Living Fashion: 1805 court suit

Living Fashion is a series in which I draw historical clothing on active people, inspired by Draw This Dress by artists Emily Carroll and Vera Brosgol.

This is a guy, for those of you who can’t tell. He’s wearing a French court ensemble from around 1805. The original is black, but I decided to make it a dark violet because the model’s eyes are violet.
I love the 1700s in male fashion. The whole century is great – dramatic cuffs, pleasing lines, mindblowing embroidery. After the French Revolution, men’s clothes fairly quickly became less decorative, less colorful, and generally boring. Well, rich men’s clothing, I should say – few men could afford clothes like this.

My favorite part about these court suits is the buttons on the overcoats – they’re awesome!
