Artist profile: Stephanie Pui-Mun Law – Mysterious Miscellaneous

Every month, I profile an artist who inspires my own art,
in several segments.

I just liked the alliteration of “Mysterious Miscellaneous” – but honestly, pretty much all of Stephanie Pui-Mun Law‘s pieces are mysterious.

In addition to the artworks I’ve posted below, be sure to check out Pui-Mun Law’s Improvement Meme, which is a tour through her style from 2003 to 2009. I always like to look at these because they show that artists aren’t born experts, and how artistic influences manifest at different times.

Pui-Mun Law posted Burdens to Bear in April; I was lucky to see it before I decided on the pictures I was going to post. It is an illustration of Cinderella, portraying her as Chinese – the oldest form of the Cinderella tale is from China. Please click on the image to see it in its entirety, plus close-ups. The composition and textures are amazing.

Thank you for exploring Stephanie Pui-Mun Law’s artwork with me this month!
