My art: 1916 butterfly dressing gown

Living Fashion is a series in which I draw historical clothing on active people, inspired by Draw This Dress by artists Emily Carroll and Vera Brosgol.

Can you believe I’m actually done with this? (It took forever, for sure.)

The inspirational piece is a dressing gown from 1916 with dramatic sleeves. (Obviously I felt I needed to match the drama of the sleeves with dramatic lightning.) I saw it on Antique Dress, which has many more close up photos. This dressing gown is in extraordinary condition and the details – especially the gold metallic thread – are striking.
